Pakistan in 10 days
One valley done properly instead of three done badly. Day by day, with the travel time and the buffer day built in honestly.
Ten days in the north looks generous until you subtract the travel. Most ten-day plans online quietly assume the flight goes, the road is open and nobody needs a day to acclimatise. This one assumes none of that.
The core decision: one valley, done properly. Ten days won't hold both Hunza and Skardu unless you'd rather drive than arrive. So it picks Hunza, for the reasons on that page.
Days 1–2 — Islamabad
Arrive, sleep, let your body catch up. Give the second day to the Margalla trails or to Taxila.
Book the northern flight for day 3 and stay somewhere you can cancel. One night before flying north explains why that matters more here than it sounds.
Day 3 — north to Gilgit
Fly if it goes. Drive if it doesn't, and be honest with yourself that driving turns a morning into a day and a half. Either way, put nothing in the evening.
Days 4–6 — Hunza, based in Karimabad
Day 4: Altit and Baltit forts, and nothing after them. You're at altitude and you've just travelled.
Day 5: up the valley into Gojal for Attabad, the Passu Cones and the Hussaini bridge. This is the day a vehicle pays for itself.
Day 6: Duikar for the sunrise, then leave the rest of the day empty. Build one of these in deliberately. It's the day people describe once they're home.
See things to do in Hunza for what each of these actually involves.
Day 7 — Khunjerab, or a second slow day
If the pass is open, go up to the border marker. If it isn't, let it go. A second unhurried day in the upper valley beats a forced one anywhere.
Day 8 — back to Gilgit
Short drive. Sleep in Gilgit, which is a working town rather than a highlight, and that's fine for a night.
Day 9 — south
Fly or drive to Islamabad. This day exists as a buffer. If the flight cancels on day 9 you still make your international connection on day 10. Compress it and you're betting your flight home on Karakoram weather.
Day 10 — depart
What this leaves out, on purpose
Skardu, Lahore, Fairy Meadows, and any trek at all. Every one of them is worth your time. None of them fits. The 14-day itinerary picks up the first two, and if the mountains aren't the reason you're coming, the 10-day heritage route spends the same ten days in Punjab and Sindh instead.
