Foreign vs domestic tour pricing
The same trek gets quoted very differently depending on who is asking. Why that happens, and what to do when it happens to you.
Nobody writes this down plainly, so here it is. The same trip in Pakistan gets quoted very differently depending on whether the person asking is a foreign visitor or a domestic one. The spread is wide. Wide enough to be a planning fact rather than a curiosity, and you want to know about it before you start collecting quotes.
Why it happens
Several reasons, and only some of them are the one you're assuming.
Different products under the same name. A foreign booking usually carries English-speaking guiding, permit handling, insurance-compliant logistics and airport transfers. The domestic booking of the "same" trek frequently carries none of that. Part of the gap is service you're genuinely receiving.
Different cost bases. Permit and park fees differ by nationality on some routes. That's policy, and no operator sets it.
Different price expectations. Some of it is simply that foreign visitors are assumed to be able to pay more and quoted accordingly. It isn't unique to Pakistan and it isn't personal.
Booking channel. A trip that reaches you through an international platform carries that platform's commission. The same operator, asked directly, doesn't.
What to actually do
Ask what is included, item by item. Most of the apparent gap dissolves into inclusions the moment you list them out. Ask about permits, porters, food, transfers, and which language the guiding happens in.
Get more than one quote, from operators you found independently. Three quotes off the same aggregator is one quote wearing three hats.
Compare against the day rates. The guide, porter and jeep bands in the table below are what the thing costs underneath. A quote sitting well above what those imply for the length of the itinerary isn't automatically wrong, but somebody should be able to explain it to you.
Book direct where you can. It usually costs less and the money goes to the operator rather than a platform. You do give up the platform's dispute process, and on a multi-week trip at altitude that isn't nothing.
