Who writes this

We are a small group who keep going back to northern Pakistan and got tired of watching people arrive with the wrong plan. Everything here comes from having done it: the roads driven, the flights missed, the guesthouses stayed in, the passes found shut.

We do not run tours. We do not own a hotel, and we are not anybody’s local agent. That matters more than it sounds like it should, because almost every other Pakistan site you will find is also selling you the trip it is describing.

Why the site exists

Ask the internet how long the drive from Islamabad to Skardu takes and you will get three different answers on the first page of results, none of them from someone who did it recently. The same is true of what a trip costs, when the passes open, and whether a hotel can actually be booked. We got the answers the slow way and wrote them down.

Keeping it current

Roads close, guesthouses change hands, and prices move. Every page here is on a schedule to be gone through again at least twice a year, and the seasonal material gets looked at before the season it describes rather than after. When something turns out to be wrong we fix it or pull it. We do not leave it up and hope.

What this site is not

It is not a government source. Confirm border, visa and safety advice with your own government before you travel, every time, because that advice changes faster than any website. It is not free of commercial interest either — see the affiliate disclosure and ranking policy for exactly what that means, and what it does not change.

Found something wrong?

Tell us. If a price, a road condition or a recommendation no longer matches what you found on the ground, the contact page goes straight to us. Readers who were just there are the fastest way anything on this site gets corrected, and we would rather hear it from you than leave the next person to find out the hard way.
