Hotels in Hunza

A short list we keep by hand. Every property gets who it suits, one honest drawback, and whether you can book it online at all.

Some links on this page are affiliate links. If you book through one, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. It never changes which options we recommend or the order they appear in — how we rank and full disclosure.

Short list, and short deliberately. Hunza has more places to sleep than anyone could sensibly keep track of, and read as listings they all say the same nothing in the same words. What nobody will tell you is what's wrong with each one.

So every property below gets three things from us: who it's for, one honest drawback, and whether you can book it online. That last one counts for more here than almost anywhere else, because a large share of the registered stock never appears on a booking platform at all. Bookable hotels explains how that happens and what to do about it.

Settle the village first. Where to stay in Hunza is the page for that, and it shapes your trip a good deal more than which bed you end up in.

Karimabad View Guesthouse

Budget

Karimabad

A small family-run guesthouse on the slope above Karimabad bazaar, within walking distance of Baltit Fort. Simple rooms, home-cooked meals on request, and the terrace that most people actually come for. Heating is limited once the season turns.

Suits: First trips to Hunza, Travellers who want to walk to the bazaar

The drawback: Rooms above the ground floor have the view; the cheapest rooms face the hillside and get almost no morning light.

Not bookable through any partner we use.

Karimabad Terrace Hotel

Mid-range

Karimabad

A mid-range hotel in upper Karimabad with consistent rooms and reliable hot water, positioned for the Rakaposhi outlook rather than for convenience. The climb from the bazaar is the trade-off and it is a real one.

Suits: Couples, Travellers who want a reliable room without paying premium rates

The drawback: It is a genuine climb up from the bazaar, which is unwelcome at altitude with luggage and worse after dark.

Not bookable through any partner we use.

Attabad Lakeside Rooms

Mid-range

Attabad

Rooms directly above Attabad Lake in Gojal, north of Karimabad, formed after the 2010 landslide dammed the Hunza River. The setting is the entire proposition. Without a vehicle you are committed to the property for meals and for getting anywhere at all.

Suits: Travellers with their own transport, Anyone prioritising the lake over the bazaar

The drawback: There is nothing else within walking distance, so you eat where you sleep every night and rates reflect that.

Not bookable through any partner we use.

Passu Cones Inn

BudgetNot bookable online

Passu

A small inn in Passu, the village under the Passu Cones, and the practical base for the glacier walk and the Hussaini suspension bridge. Basic rooms, a short season, and the last cluster of accommodation of any size before Sost and the Khunjerab Pass.

Suits: Trekkers heading for Passu Glacier or the suspension bridge, Travellers going on towards Khunjerab

The drawback: No online booking of any kind, and mobile coverage in Passu is unreliable enough that phoning ahead can itself be difficult.

No online card booking — reserve by phone or WhatsApp.

Properties are ordered by editorial judgement — who each one suits, and its honest drawback. Order is never influenced by commission. How we rank.
